Here are some powerpoints for your child to practice at home. Your child should begin to memorize the answers. It will take a few months for all of the children to memorize their way to nine. Practice, practice, practice:) I will add new ones every two weeks and take the easier ones off.

Baggies, Binders, & Homework

Baggy books will go home every night and return to school each morning. Please use these books, along with any you have at home or from the Public Library, to fill out your child's log. This is part of your child's homework and a log must be completed each month to help your child reach his/her end of the year goal. Your child should read and/or be read to for at least 10 minutes a night. The books will increasingly get more difficult. I purposely don't want to frustrate them early on since many of them didn't read much over the summer. After 3 or 4 readings, your child can exchange the book for a new one. Soon this will be done independently. 

Sight words are to stay in your child's backpack and should be practiced regularly. Once your child can read each word, quiz them on spelling (which is much harder). A new bag will come home about every six weeks. He/she will get a new set each nine weeks!

Written weekly homework will start at Labor Day week. Please spend this month getting into a routine with bag books, sight words, and reading logs. Also, keep practicing important information like address/phone/birthday. 

Sight Words

As part of your child's report card grade, he/she will be scored on reading sight words each 9 weeks. There are 50 new sight words every period. We will use these words a lot in class, but any additional assistance at home would be greatly appreciated as well. Here are PowerPoint slideshows for the 1st and 2nd nine weeks. The words will change every 3 seconds because it should take no longer than that if your child has truly memorized the word. *You can also find these words in your child's Take Home binder.

Meal Pay

Please think about paying your child's lunch/breakfast online. This will ensure that money is never lost or misplaced. Please not that all children are free to go to breakfast unless you write me a note stating otherwise.
